Guided School Excursion Tour Information
One‑hour, fully guided adventure designed to spark curiosity and bring students up close to Australia’s most fascinating creatures.
Specifically designed to align with the NEW Science & Technology Syllabus!
These tours immerse students in the world of living things, how animals survive, interact with their environment, and what they need to thrive. Students will explore wildlife habitats, meet iconic Australian species, and discover the unique behaviours that make each animal extraordinary.
Tour Topics
Students will embark on a guided tour through the zoo to discover the importance of conserving Australia’s unique wildlife and the habitats it relies on. Led by our expert educators, the tour highlights the pressures facing native species from habitat loss to human impact and showcases the conservation work happening within the zoo.
Students will gain a deeper understanding of how animals adapt to a changing environment and learn practical ways we can all contribute to protecting and preserving Australia’s natural ecosystems.

Early Stage 1
- Students observe animal features, discuss how living things survive and learn how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples use deep knowledge of plants, animals and Country to care for the environment (STE‑PQU‑01, STE‑SCI‑01).
Stage 1
- Learners explore how animals change over time, consider extinct species and discuss how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples care for places and water environments, while also learning simple ways they can help protect nature in their communities (ST1‑SCI‑01, ST1‑PQU‑01, ST1‑DAT‑01, HS1‑ACH‑01, HS1‑GEO‑01).
Stage 2
- Students examine how plants, animals and people depend on each other, explore responsibilities for caring for Australia’s environments and learn about practical conservation actions (ST2‑SCI‑01, ST2‑PQU‑01, ST2‑DAT‑01, HS2‑ACH‑01, HS2‑GEO‑01).
Stage 3
- Learners investigate how ecosystems change over time, how species loss or introduction affects environments and how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sustainable practices continue to protect Country. They also explore real conservation work happening at WILDLIFE Sydney Zoo, such as breeding programs, habitat restoration and threatened species awareness. Consider how human actions influence climate and biodiversity (ST3‑SCI‑01, ST3‑PQU‑01, ST3‑DAT‑01).
This guided tour introduces students to the fascinating life cycles of Australia’s native animals. Through close observation and educator-led discussion, students will explore how animals grow and change over time, comparing the life cycles of various creatures, including insects, reptiles, and mammals.
The tour helps students recognise each stage of development and understand the unique ways different species survive and reproduce in their natural habitats.

Early Stage 1
- Students build curiosity by noticing animal features, comparing living and non‑living things and discussing how animals get what they need to survive (STE‑PQU‑01, STE‑SCI‑01).
Stage 1
- Learners deepen their understanding of how animals grow and change by observing life stages, identifying features and using simple scientific language to describe what they see (ST1‑SCI‑01, ST1‑PQU‑01, ST1‑DAT‑01).
Stage 2
- Students explore habitats, food webs and the ways animals depend on each other and their environment through guided discussions and close‑up observations (ST2‑SCI‑01, ST2‑PQU‑01, ST2‑DAT‑01).
Stage 3
- Learners examine structural and behavioural adaptations, consider how species respond to environmental change and discuss human impacts on ecosystems (ST3‑SCI‑01, ST3‑PQU‑01, ST3‑DAT‑01).
Students will begin this guided tour by exploring how we classify living things and the unique adaptations that help them survive. By examining a range of wildlife artefacts and observing native species up close, students will discover how different animals are grouped based on their features and behaviours.
The tour also introduces the three types of adaptations: structural, behavioural, and functional and highlights how these features work together to support survival in the wild.

Early Stage 1
- Students build curiosity as they observe animal bodies, coverings and behaviours up close, compare living and non‑living things and explore how animals get what they need from their environment (STE‑PQU‑01, STE‑SCI‑01).
Stage 1
- Learners investigate how living things grow and change over time, explore life cycles and use simple scientific language and labelled diagrams to describe and group animals based on their features (ST1‑SCI‑01, ST1‑PQU‑01, ST1‑DAT‑01).
Stage 2
- Students deepen their understanding of how animals depend on their habitats by examining the relationships between living and non‑living components, and exploring how different adaptations help species survive in unique environments (ST2‑SCI‑01, ST2‑PQU‑01, ST2‑DAT‑01).
Stage 3
- Learners take a closer look at structural and behavioural adaptations, investigate how species respond to environmental change over long periods of time and consider how the introduction or loss of species can impact Australian ecosystems (ST3‑SCI‑01, ST3‑PQU‑01, ST3‑DAT‑01).
This guided tour introduces students to Australia’s diverse habitats and the animals that live within them. Through guided exploration, students will observe how different environments meet the needs of living creatures and compare the features that help animals survive.
Our educators encourage curiosity, simple problem‑solving, and an appreciation for the unique ecosystems found across Australia.

Early Stage 1
- Students explore the basic needs of living things by observing how different animals find air, water and food, and by comparing living and non‑living elements within each habitat (STE‑PQU‑01, STE‑SCI‑01).
Stage 1
- Learners investigate how habitats change over time, how seasonal patterns influence animal behaviour and appearance, and how we can describe and group living things using simple scientific language and labelled diagrams (ST1‑SCI‑01, ST1‑PQU‑01, ST1‑DAT‑01).
Stage 2
- Students deepen their understanding of ecosystems by examining the relationships between plants, animals and their environments. Through guided discussions and close‑up encounters, they explore how living and non‑living components interact and why each habitat is uniquely suited to the species that live there (ST2‑SCI‑01, ST2‑PQU‑01, ST2‑DAT‑01).
Stage 3
- Learners investigate how habitats evolve over long periods of time, how the introduction or loss of species can impact an ecosystem and how scientific knowledge helps us protect these environments for the future (ST3‑SCI‑01, ST3‑PQU‑01, ST3‑DAT‑01).
Students will enjoy a memorable guided adventure through WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo, discovering Australia’s most iconic animals up close. Led by our knowledgeable Educators, this experience offers an engaging introduction to native wildlife, their habitats, and the unique features that make each species special.
