Get up Close with Australian Animals

Wondering where to see Australian animals without travelling deep into the outback? Conveniently located all in one place, WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo makes it possible. Here’s how.

An Introduction to Iconic Aussie Animals

WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo is a great attraction for locals and overseas visitors alike. If you’re looking to catch sight of the Aussie Big 5, this is the place to start. Come eye-to-eye with our huge saltwater crocodile Rocky, watch the cutest kangaroo joeys hop about, snap a selfie with chilled-out koalas and spot our platypuses gliding through the water. And that big furry boulder? It’s actually Ringo the wombat!

There are more unique Australian animals you can get up close with. Catch the infectious smile of a cute quokka to see why it’s gained recent media attention as being one of the happiest animals on the planet. This mainly nocturnal marsupial is only found on Rottnest Island and a handful of smaller islands around the West Australian coast. Or get a slice of the Daintree Rainforest, looking out for the Carpet Python, Broad-Wheeled River Turtles and cassowary.

There is so much to see and do

Because there’s nothing like interacting with your favourite animals up close, not only does your ticket include admission to WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo, but also the chance to get up close to iconic Australian animals during keeper talks that happen throughout the day.

To make the most of your visit, check out the daily talks and feeds schedule ahead of your trip. Come and meet Topsy and Bub, our resident Tassie Devils, and learn about the threat these intriguing animals are facing in the wild. You can also discover all about the conservation efforts our zoo is undertaking for other animals too. Hear the beautiful story of Ringo, our orphaned and adopted wombat or help our keepers feed the playful Red Collard Lorikeets. If you’ve got little ones in tow, there’s even an interactive story time which they’ll love.

It’s also good to check What’s On beforehand for exciting events like Mother’s Day specials and school holiday activities.

Ultimate Australian Animal Adventure in the Heart of the City

WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo is in the heart of Darling Harbour. It’s only a short walk from the city centre and is easy to get to whether you’re travelling by rail, ferry, bus, car or foot. Find your best routes here. Once you arrive, the zoo is easy to navigate with a wide, flat path that’s completely stroller-friendly.

Did you know we’re open 365 days a year? We have both indoor and outdoor exhibits, which means rain, hail or shine, you can visit us any day between 10am and 5pm (last entry is 4pm). With all the fun things to see and do, the zoo is the perfect place to round up your friends and family, bring a date or embark on a solo adventure.

Bonus tip: right next door to us is SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, which means you can continue getting up close to Australian animals – under the sea! Book tickets online to visit both Sydney attractions and SAVE.

Want a break after all the exploration? Darling Harbour has a buzzing strip of restaurants and bars by the water. There are also parks and playgrounds to relax or run around in Darling Quarter. A day well spent!
