Special treats just for the Gal-imals on Galentine’s Day!

Zoo Keepers used the annual holiday recognising female friendships to celebrate close-knit female ties in the zoo and highlight the importance of such special bonds among particularly species.

It was Doe-ers (female kangaroos) before Boomers (male kangaroos) at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo in Darling Harbour this morning where ladies of the animal kind were gifted special treats in celebration of Galentine’s Day.

Zoo Keepers used the annual holiday recognising female friendships to celebrate close-knit female ties in the zoo and highlight the importance of such special bonds among particularly species.

Spoiled gals this Galentine’s Day were the world’s cutest kangaroo mob Dot, Dusk, Nutmeg, Kirby and Julie who enjoyed heart-shaped sweet potato treats along with corn. Long-time BFF Sugar Gliders Popcorn, Kandii and Kernel raised a toast over a private dinner party of fruit and nectar while appreciation of female friendships continued in the Tassie Devil’s Den where new besties Bub and Dharra shared a meaty meal.

“Some of the animals here at the zoo are social animals and it’s incredibly important for them to have those relationships,” said Marina Axia, WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo ZooKeeper. “Kangaroos for example travel in mobs and our girls here have created their own mob. Sugar gliders cuddle up together for comfort and although Tassie Devils are solitary, our girls have surprised us by resting together and sharing meals.”

“We thought we’d celebrate these beautiful friendships with a treat or two on Galentine’s Day and take this opportunity educate guests on unique bonds, especially among females in the animal kingdom,” she added.

What is Galentine’s Day?

Galentine’s Day is an international celebration of gal pals and their female friendships. It has fictional roots having originated on the popular TV show Parks and Recreation but is now celebrated annually every February 13th. The holiday is perfectly placed a day before Valentine’s Day to ensure all ladies receive affection and love during the romantic period.
