Update on Frankie the Numbat

Friday 3rd February 2023

It is with tremendous sadness that our team here at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo can confirm that Frankie, our much loved numbat, has unfortunately passed away this Thursday, 2nd February 2023.

Frankie has been an incredibly special part of the WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo family since his arrival in December 2020 and lived to an impressive age of 7 years – a milestone not often reached by numbats, where the expected age of a wild numbat would typically be around 4-5 years. In recent weeks Frankie has been monitored closely by our onsite keepers following some unusual eating behaviours and has been undergoing frequent veterinary assessments. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated this week and he sadly passed away yesterday.

He was a one-of-a-kind numbat, a tiny animal with a huge personality and he stole the hearts of our team and guests alike. Frankie’s loss is being felt by his dedicated keepers and zoo staff; we are providing support and care for our devoted team, especially those who worked with him day-to-day during his time here at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo.
