Sleepy Burrows Adventure
On Thursday the 25th August 2016, Melissa Glibert and Emily De Palo - two keepers from WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo did a volunteer day at Sleepy burrows wombat sanctuary with volunteers from Illawarra fly.
This sanctuary is run by a lovely couple named Donna and Phil at their family home and they keep it running by donations from the public.
Their day consisted of planting several trees for the sanctuary to provide shade for wombat pens, clearing old dead trees that had fallen over in the bad weather, setting up posts for more wombat pens to be built with their increasing numbers of orphaned wombats coming in. They also helped dig out an old pen, removing dirt and filling in a burrow in preparation for a new holding pen. After all the hard work was done, they had some well earned play time with some of the young orphaned wombats, Warra, Mullen and Bundoo.
The keepers at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo are not only passionate about our animals here, but use their personal time to work hard at helping conserve our native wild life. What a great team!
