Our joeys have been named!
Proud Mothers Kyara and Sammy have both given birth to a joey this season and we are pleased to announce they are both healthy girls.
After much deliberation, Senior Keeper Caroline Munro has confirmed the girls names.
First up we have Karri. Karri is an aboriginal term for a eucalyptus species (Eucalyptus diversicolour). This term comes from a tribe in Western Australia and we feel very fitting as koalas only eat eucalyptus leaves.
Our second joey has been named Iluka. Iluka means 'by the sea' in a local dialect which we feel represents our location on the harbour.
These gorgeous joeys are taking turns harbouring themselves on either Kyara or Sammy and can be seen at Koala Rooftop.
Visitors can also have the chance to come face-to-face with our resident koalas and take an amazing photo with them. You can find out more about Koala Encounters here, or you can check out more about Koala Breakfasts here.
