Cassowary Chicks Update
At the end of last year the WILD LIFE Conservation Fund announced a fundraising initiative to help contribute to the costs of caring and feeding 3 orphaned cassowary chicks. 100% of all proceeds made from Cassowary Encounters are sent to Rainforest Rescue's 'Save The Cassowary' Rehabilitation Centre in Queensland, where the chicks are being reared.
We are excited to announce that in the past 2 months, WILD LIFE Conservation Fund has raised over $1,000 for the three orphaned cassowaries! This is an amazing result that has helped ensure these chicks receive the care and support they need so they can one day be re-released into the wild.
Rainforest Rescue has let us know that all three chicks are doing very well and growing bigger every day! In fact they are growing so much that carers' are planning to move them into a larger pen.
The progress does not stop there! As two chicks were rescued together and the third came on its on, the carers originally had to separate the single chick from the rest. However, carers have recently been able to introduce the third chick to the other two and they are all getting along (they still remain separated at night though as to not push their bonding experience!)
The WILD LIFE Conservation Fund would like to thank everyone who has donated to this incredible cause. If you would like to get involved, come in and experience our Cassowary Encounter at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo at 12:30pm daily. One of our friendly keepers can give you more information on cassowary conservation and you can be rewarded for your donations by getting a chance to feed our cassowary, Princess!
