Bear Cottage's Christmas Surprise
A squad of cute and cuddly animals from WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo have made a special Christmas visit to the Bear Cottage in Manly to help to put a smile on the faces of kids with life-limiting illnesses. The always smiling quokka, Davey, the sweet sugar glider, Penny, and spikey echidna, Diesel, were the star guests at the children's hospice.
The native Australian animals surprised parents and kids equally when they made their appearance to the hospice. The 11 kids grabbed the chance to get up close and personal with the animals and also participated in an interesting 'Kids Ask - Keepers Answer' session.
"This is the first time our Aussie animals have made the excursion out to Bear Cottage, and it was heart-warming to see how happy our animals made these kids today. After initial reserve, curiosity prevailed and the children enjoyed every second to get up close with our animal stars and even feed them," said Erin Costelloe, WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo keeper.
"It is a privilege to visit the Bear Cottage with our animals. I hope that we could provide a memorable experience for children, who are otherwise too sick to come to WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo," added Erin.
Bronwen Simmons from Bear Cottage said that the animal visit was a highlight for the kids and a welcome change to what they have to undergo from day to day.
"We are very grateful to WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo for providing this wonderful opportunity for our children and families. The kids absolutely loved the chance to get up close to these amazing animals. We are very much wanting our families to be able to create special memories together and today will certainly be one of those days that will be remembered for some time!"
