Baby Diamond Pythons Hatching!
WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo is super excited to have the pleasure of hand raising 13 baby Diamond Pythons!
It all started when mum and dad, both from WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo mated. Our daring Kepper Mick was thrilled to be tasked with the responsibility of caring for these 13 eggs.
These Diamond Pythons were incubating for roughly 60 days before hatching earlier this week. The babies took a few days to come out of their shells.
It took a few days for these hatchlings to wriggle their way out until all 13 were stacks on each other. They do this to protect themselves!
After a few days, Mick will seperate them to monitor their health, how much they are eating and how fast they are growing!
Diamond pythons are a southern species of python found in Victoria however also very common on the east coast of NSW, all the way up to Coffs Harbour.
These guys will grow to around 2 metres long and will take around 2 or 3 years to come out on display at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo.
In the meantime, you can have a photo with our other Pythons in our exhibit!
