Keeper Melanie Brown Cuts Small Opening To Complete A Possum Drey WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo

Possum Drey

Help out your ringtail possum friends at home!

The common ringtail possum is an Australian marsupial. It lives in a variety of habitats and eats a variety of leaves of both native plants, as well as flowers, fruits and sap. The tail of the Common Ringtail Possum is prehensile meaning that it can grasp objects and act as another limb.

Step by step guide!

Try creating a possum drey with two wire hanging baskets, two coconut fibre basket liners, cable tires, scissors and wire cutters! You can see an example of a lizard lounge in our nocturnal zone!

Hint 1: Don't make the opening too large or the ringtail possums won't feel safe and secure!

Hint 2: When you hang the possum drey - make sure it is not in an exposed area and is hidden in the tree canopy.

Hint 3: Don't put it in an isolated tree, otherwise the ringtail possums will have to come down to find food and to move around.

Hooray! You've now created your possum drey! Now you can sit back, relax and watch your WILD possum neighbours enjoy your creation!
